W28 Generator

The W28 generator for the FlexEfficiency* 50 Combined Cycle Power Plant features an enhanced, compact configuration for placement between the steam and gas turbines. Improved for reliable energy production, the W28 generator is positioned to convert mechanical energy to electricity at a new standard of performance.

Highly Efficient and Easy to Service

Featuring a water-cooled stator, this 650 MVA generator offers improved cooling capability, as well as increased reliability and high efficiency. In fact, the overall generator efficiency exceeds 99%. The use of water-cooling for the generator stator enables a compact configuration, which has a smaller plant footprint. Along with its robust construction and increased efficiency, the W28 generator has a tightly sealed stator frame developed to prevent gas and oil leakage – helping reduce maintenance and increase reliability.


The one-piece frame construction offers easy installation, while additional features provide simplified alignment and improved serviceability. All aspects of the architecture have been selected to enhance operability and reduce maintenance requirements.

The W28 generator and its foundation interface have been specifically configured to facilitate removal of the generator from between the turbines for maintenance or repair. This architecture incorporates lessons learned from over 50 years of GE experience with a fleet of more than 600 liquid cooled and combined cycle generators.
